1. Long Life
Imagine that after changing a LED bulb you will not need to use time and resources to change it again in many years to come. Sounds good, right? Long life time stands out as the number one benefit of LED lights. LED bulbs and diodes have an outstanding operational life time expectation of up to 100.000 hours (8-10 times longer than standard halogen lamps). This is 11 years of continuous operation, or 22 years of 50% operation. If you leave a LED light on for 8h a day it would take around 20 years before you’d have to replace the LED bulb.
LED’s are different to standard lighting: They don’t really burn out and stop working like a standard light, moreover the lighting diodes emit lower output levels over a very long period of time.
LED lights are today’s most efficient way of illumination, with an estimated energy efficiency of 80%-90%. This means that about 80% of the electrical energy is converted to light, while only ca. 20% is lost in the form of heat.
While you still might think that 20% is a lot, remember that a standard 50W halogen bulb turns around 90% of the electricity used into heat with only 10% into light. Furthermore, LED lights use only about 15% of the energy a standard halogen bulb uses, while providing up to 85% of the light output and creating much less heat emissions which makes them so cool to touch. Some LED Lights can be operated by mains power, but when used with a Low Voltage LED Driver, LED Lights will produce more light output per watt.
